How we work?

At Karmalaya Handicraft we collect durable non-biodegradable polypropylene (plastic like) and give them a second life as new upcycled products. Currently, the most upcycled material is plastic rice sacks that are commonly found in Nepal. These rice sacks go through steps of examinations before using them for products. The pre-manufacturing stage consists of vigorous cleaning, identifying and selection of usable sacks with perfect quality and durability.

As a social enterprise we build women's knowledge, confidence and succeed in their financial self-dependency. We work to develop their skills by providing handicraft related trainings and workshops which are short in time, easy to learn, and skill-oriented at the same time. Karmalaya Handicraft supports them with knowledge, network in selling their diverse handmade products and give additional social benefits.

Karmalaya Handicraft provides skill oriented trainings to disadvantaged women in different places of Nepal. We regularly organize sewing and weaving training added by small-scale business management training for the vulnerable women coming from risky backgrounds of human trafficking, urban poverty and victims of violence. After training, some start their business while others work with us. Karmalaya Foundation again helps for marketing and selling of these products in the market.
